Born and raised in the snowy, mountain community of Red Deer, Alberta, Drew Goldsack was a natural-born skier. At the age of six he began cross-country skiing when he joined the Jackrabbit Ski League under the guidance of his fifth grade teacher, Bob Vanderwater. And he has been going strong ever since. The 2006 Turin Games mark Goldsack's Olympic debut.

Goldsack has raced on the Canadian national team since the 2003-04 season. That same year, he competed in his first World Championships in Val di Fiemme, Italy, where he placed 50th in the Sprint. Since then he has continued to improve. In 2004, he finished 35th at the World Cup in Lahti, Finland and in 2005, he posted a career best 21st-place finish at the World Championships in Oberstdorf, Germany. Early in the 2005-06 season, his 28th-place finish at the World Cup in Vernon, BC, is the obvious highlight.

When Drew isn't cross-country skiing he enjoys playing soccer, participating in track and field events and cross-country running. Goldsack has completed one year of an engineering degree at the University of Calgary, but he recently decided to postpone his studies and devote his time entirely to skiing. However, once his cross-country career is over, Drew plans on going back to school to complete his degree.
