After a twelve year hiatus, the Canadian Ski Jumping team will return to Olympic competition this year in Turin. A youthful crop of enthusiastic athletes has been at the forefront of the sport's resurgence in Canada, and Michael Nell is among them.

A strong all-around athlete, with a background in competitive soccer, volleyball and downhill skiing, Nell first tried ski jumping in 1999. The following year he became a member of the National Development team, and he's been flying ever since.

He has finished within the Top-4 in four Canadian National Ski Jumping Championships, and had three Top-10 finishes early in the 2005-06 FIS Continental Cup season.

Nell is currently studying Geology close to home at the University of Calgary, but he has been traveling to parts far and wide with his family since childhood, and therefore embraces the opportunity to travel to competitions in Europe and elsewhere with the national team.

When he isn't ski jumping, Nell enjoys other outdoor activities such as camping, biking, and rock climbing.

Nell will look to contribute significantly to the team event in Turin, where he and his ski jumping teammates will look to keep their sport in the Canadian public's consciousness, and keep funding for the sport flowing through the upcoming 2010 Games in Whistler.
