Just 25 years of age, Veronika Bauer is making her second Olympic appearance this February in Turin. Born in the Toronto suburb of North York, Bauer began competing competitively in gymnastics and then on the trampoline, a sport in which she became the Ontario champion in 1994. Not until she was 16-years-old did she transfer her skills to aerial skiing.

After joining the development team, Bauer became an instant success. In fact, during her first year of competitive aerials, she won her debut contest at a Nor-Am Cup event in Lake Placid. Although she didn't qualify for the Nagano Games, 1998 is considered as Veronika's breakout year. She finished with four Top-8 results on the World Cup circuit and even had a sixth-place finish at the World Championships.

In 2002, she qualified for the Salt Lake City Olympics, advancing to the final round by finishing an impressive 10th overall. Since the 2002 Games, she has earned numerous Top-3 results on the World Cup circuit and finished second at the 2003 World Championships in Deer Valley.

Thus far, her 2005-06 World Cup season has been considered a disappointment, unfortunately. Even though she earned a silver medal at Deer Valley and a bronze in Changchun, she's had multiple finishes out of the Top-10. Nonetheless, Bauer has enough skill and experience to be considered one of Canada's top medal hopefuls.
