It's hard to believe, but David Bissett's first crack at bobsleigh occurred in mid-November of 2005. Now, three months later, he's on his way to the Olympics as a key member of Serge Despres' four-man and two-man crews.

A former tailback at the University of Alberta, Bissett joins Nathan Cunningham and Steve Larsen as the third member in Despres' four-man sled to join bobsleigh with a background in football -- Cunningham played at the University of Calgary while Larsen played at the University of Manitoba.

Bissett succeeded as a running back in football due to his great strength and explosive speed, two qualities that are very important in bobsleigh as well. With the physical traits taken care of, Bissett had to learn the intricacies of the new sport. He joined the development team on the Europa Cup circuit four days after the Golden Bears were knocked out of the CIAU playoffs by the University of Saskatchewan Huskies in November of 2005. He proved himself right away and was promoted quickly to the national team, racing in Depres' four-man crew and more recently in the two-man. He has three Top-20 results in World Cup two-man races in 2005-06, including a career-best 14th-place finish at St. Moritz, Switzerland.

With only three months of bobsledding to his credit, winning a medal in Turin won't be easy for Bissett. However, considering how fast he's learned the sport, imagine how good he'll be by the time the Vancouver Games roll around in 2010.
