Success on the international ski scene is a family tradition for Michael Janyk. His grandfather raced at the University of Zurich, his mother was a member of the Canadian national team and his sister Britt is a veteran of the current women's national squad heading into Turin.

Janyk and his sister have proven they can push one another to strong results. They became the first pair of siblings to capture Canadian titles in the same year, with each winning the slalom events at the national Championships in 2004.

Michael is coming off strong showings on the current World Cup season, where he recently finished tenth in the slalom at Adelboden, Switzerland in early 2006.

Janyk also posted solid results in the slalom in 2005, with an 11th at the World Championships in Bormio Italy, to go along with a sixth-place at the Kranjska Gora World Cup in Slovenia, as well as a silver medal in Nor-Am Cup competition at Sunday River, Maine.

The skier teammates call "The Seagull" is an avid golfer away from the slopes, and he has his eyes set on a career in broadcasting following racing.

For now, though, Janyk is focused on continuing the family legacy on the mountain with a solid showing at the 2006 Turin Games.
